I'm a mom of three children, one of whom is dyslexic. We were told in Kindergarten that something wasn't quite right, but it wasn't until the end of second grade that we knew Colby had dyslexia. I battled the public school system. I researched the private schools, only to find their services lacking. In order to give Colby one-on-one attention, I homeschooled him, something I said I would never do. Still he needed more.
After a year of homeschooling, I realized Colby still needed help that I simply couldn't give him at the time. I began researching and reading everything I could on dyslexia. I became obsessed. I found that dyslexia is best remediated with an Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching. Colby entered therapy and we saw tremendous results. I sat in on his appointments and my passion only grew stronger. Fast forward a couple of years and Colby is now in the 8th grade in the public school system. He still struggles. There is no cure for dyslexia. But he now knows that he is capable of learning. He just has to learn differently.
The success I saw with Colby fueled my passion for the Orton-Gillingham approach to remediating dyslexia. Every child should have the opportunity to learn in a manner that is consistent with how his brain works. This includes your child! Let me use the experience, knowledge and training I have acquired to help your bright child succeed.
